It was in April 2003 and he was the first among us to get married. The engagement happened during late 2002. Anshu, his would be wife, have met us and infact we were all together at 437 during New Year celebrations for the same year (i.e. 31st December, 2002). The marriage ceremony was to be at Gorakhpur, Syal belongs to Gorakhpur and yes we all know that he is a true punju. So all of us were to go to GKP and that also included one of another old 437 fan and my old school friend, Vinod Durga.
Incidentally Ravi didn't come with us and I dont remember why and Rahul was not in country. We took Vaishali Express and reached there a day before. Since Rahul was not in country, it was a big problem for Syal. Rahul was his half-brother and w/o him the marriage was not as colorful. So after much deliberation and planning it was decided that Rahul would tweak his work schedule so that he reaches Delhi the previous night but since there wont be enough time left to further take a train and come to GKP, he would instead take a flight. Arrangements were made so that he can pick his tickets and Syal agreed to fund the journey, probably thinking that he would get the money back :). Poor Soul.
Rahul did join us, on the day of marriage and we had lot of fun. Here's a pic of myself, Rahul, Durga and Avinash. I am in traditional ethnic wear, Rahul in a western attire with the tie and Durga and Avi in smart casuals.
After marriage, the issue of funds did come in various discussions, over bottles of beer but I guess Syal didn't get the money back. I am guessing.
If you are reading this then let me know whether Rahul should pay the money back or not and why. Or do you think that he has already paid. Should Syal ask for the money and what should the other punters do.
Best answers would qualify for the lucky draw and the winner gets a keg of beer.

Oh yes that was quiet a fast tracked trip. I had to tweak in my schedule to attend the same. Landed at IGI a night before, went to 437 to catch on some sleep and then took an early morning flight to Gorakhpur. (Flight was Sahara Del - Lko -Gkp -Cal). Yes, Syal had booked the tickets for me and had handed over to Shubhangi who was working with Syal in his previous company and later had joined the same company in which I worked. She gave the tickets to Nandan who kept the tickets at home, and that’s how I got them. (Things well coordinated)
I believe Ravi had gone to US in some weather risk project. Nandan, Avinash and Durga were already there. (Durga's first time in Train, so he was quiet excited). Avinash with his long hairs was kind off potrayed as a photographer with a tripod & SLR during the Sagan ceremony.
I reached on the morning of the marriage day and it was good fun and Syal's cousin brother Monu was instructed to be with us at all time. (We stayed at Kalu chacha’s house)
During the baarat procession me, Avinash and Durga were dancing with the Gorakhpur brass band and the guy in the ethnic dress was walking on the other side of the road with a kind of notion that "I don't know these guys".
Well Syal's marriage was real fun. This was my second visit to Gorakhpur, the first was a year before when me a Syal went to Nepal. Of course we are brothers and my Indian driving license has Syal's Gorakhpur address.
We all returned back by train, and on the way back train engine failed and we were stalled at some station delaying our arrival at Delhi by almost 10 hours. (We played cards and had samosas from the train station). Nandan managed the gift for Syal’s wedding and delegated Durga to setup the inverter at Syal’s newly furnished apartment at Vikaspuri. (That project really got delayed but yes finally got accomplished).
The ticket money issue did come up during some beer sessions but the poor soul was REFUNDED the flight ticket.
I am amazed and then further amazed with your memory, you remember that we stayed at 'Kalu chacha's home'.
Wow.
I think you landed one night before and you had a full day with you. I remember that we also thought that you could have taken the next evening's train. I am not 100% sure though.
Yes the money was refunded but not immediately. Booze was all around the marriage. Remember Babloo Cacha offered you guys beer and whisky in his room. You guys also went to Kushi-Nagar the day before marriage. It was fun. I still have 5-6 only digital copy(taken by nandan/avinash camera) of my marriage photos.
